What grade is a taper?

01 July 2024 | By Sheeza

In a taper haircut, the "grade" refers to the length setting on the clippers used to achieve the tapered effect. Clipper grades typically range from 0 (the shortest) to 8 (the longest). A lower grade number, such as 1 or 2, results in a very short and close taper, providing a more defined contrast between the top and sides. Higher grade numbers, like 4 or 5, produce a more subtle taper with less noticeable transitions. The choice of grade depends on personal preference and the desired final look, allowing for customization to suit individual styles and hair types.
